Summit had two chances in the last 30 seconds to win this game. Summit took possession down 45-44 but turned the ball over with 25 seconds on the clock. Luckily Summit was given another chance with 13 ticks left on the clock. Summit managed a shot this time, but it bounced off the rim.
This was a game of spurts, punctuated with a lot of turnovers by both sides. Summit was down 10-8 in the 1st quarter when it went on a 15 - 0 run that gave Summit a 23-10 lead in the 2nd quarter. But Cranford stepped up the defensive pressure and out scored Summit 23 - 6 to grab a 33 - 29 advantage late in the 3rd quarter. With about 3 minutes left in the game Cranford still held an 8 point lead. Two free throws by Liz Sheridan and a FG by Karen Jann cut the lead to 4 points. After another Cranford FG Sheridan and Jann repeated their routine and cut the lead to 2 points. Cranford again scored a FG. This time Sheridan made one free throw and Jann scored another FG and it was a one point game with 90 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately, Summit couldn't muster another score.
Summit was handicapped by the loss of Lauren Ertz who injured her knee in the Parsippany game and is probably out for the rest of the season. Summit may have lost the game at the foul line as they were only able to convert 8 of their 18 attempts.
