|Summit’s annual game against Parsippany was played under the lights at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University. Summit arrived hoping to reverse a four game losing streak. Sadly, Summit ended with a 9-8 loss in extra innings. What made matters worse, Will Schaffer, the Hilltoppers’ leading hitter, came up seriously lame racing to 1st base in the 7th inning.
Matt Moremile was the starting pitcher. Moremile struggled throught the first two innings. He didn’t allow any hits or runs but did hit 3 batters and give up 3 walks over the two innings. Meanwhile Summit took a first inning 2-0 lead. Matt Mutolo walked, Grant Douglas was hit by a pitch and Andrew Miller tripled to drive in the 2 runs. Patrick Smolyn took the mound in the 3rd inning after the first batter was walked. He was tagged for 3 runs in the top of the 3rd.
Summit tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd on a double by Douglas and a single by Schaffer. Parsippany added 3 runs in the top of the fifth, but Summit came back in the bottom of that inning. Again in the 7th inning Parsippany added 2 runs in the 7th inning and Summit answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. So the game went to extra innings. Parsippany picked up the winning run in the 9th off a pair of singles and a wild pitch..
