|Summit took on Elizabeth in the first round of the Union County Tournament at the Dunn. It was clear from the start that this Elizabeth team was one we could beat. The Dunn is notorious in afternoon game for the sun glare that streams in at the concession stand end of the court. That was Summit’s end of the court in the first half. Who knows whether it was that glare, but Summit went zero for eight on 3-point tries in the half. In spite of that, the Hilltoppers were only down 20-17 at the half.
In the second half, when Summit moved to the other court, the 3-point shooting improved to 4 of 10. But for the entire game Summit was only 4 of 18 from 3-point land. To add to the misery, Elizabeth went to the foul line 18 times to Summit’s six. Summit just couldn’t get the calls.
Chip Roriston scored 14 points, including all 5 of Summit’s free throws, and hauled down 11 rebounds. Will Shaffer scored 10 points, all in the 2nd half.
