Steve Bariexca pitched a spectacular game against Cranford, the 3rd seeded team in the Union County Tournament. Just look at the stats! Two hits, no runs, no walks, 5 strike outs and only 3 base runners. Of the 3 base runners only one managed to reach as far as 3rd base. Combine this good pitching with an 11 hit offensive attack and you have the recipe for major victory.

Summit got off on the right foot in the first inning when Mike Nelson (who went 2 for 3) led off with a single. Matt Benedetti doubled and Ryan Carey drove in a run with an infield ground ball. Benedetti eventually had 2 doubles and 2 singles. Two more runs were added in the 4th inning when Benedetti and Carey had back-to-back singles, moved to 2nd and 3rd on a Nick Monaco sacrifice bunt and scored on an error by the Cranford 2nd baseman. Rob Delgado started the 5th inning by getting on base on a error. A pair of singles by Nelson and Matt Williams, a double by Benedetti, an intentional walk to Carey and a single by Chris Kaiser resulted 5 runs. The final runs came in the 6th inning as Delgado again got things off on the right foot by a lead off single. A Cranford error, a single by Benedetti and a double by Monaco scored the final 3 runs of the game.

The game was stopped after 6 innings by the 10 run "mercy" rule.
