Paul Krupa pitched 5 innings of 1 hit baseball and Mike D'Ecclessis pitched 1 inning of hitless relief to register a shut out. Summit's defense was at it's best as it erased 3 of Dayton's 4 base runners with very well executed double plays. In the In the first inning, after Dayton got it's only hit, Krupa caught a line drive and threw to first for the DP. In the 2nd inning Summit pulled off a tough 5-4-3 (Ryan Carey to Mike Mormak to Chris Kaiser) DP. Finally, in the 6th inning Mormak picked up a hard hit grounder , flipped it to Mike Nelson who threw to Chris Kaiser to complete the double play. On the last two DPs Kaiser did a great job of stretching to the ball to get the batter at first.
Summit garnered 4 runs in the 4th inning. Kaiser led off with a single. Then, with 2 outs, Nelson slammed a triple to drive a run. Matt Williams was walked and Nelson scored on a wild pitch. The final 2 runs came on a Matt Benedetti home run. Two runs were added in the 5th inning. Benedetti walked and stole 2nd base. Nick Monaco's single drove in one run. After Monaco moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch, Kaiser singled to score the 2nd run. Steve Bariexca began the 6th inning with a single and scored on a Nelson home run. Benedetti's 3rd walk of the game plus a stolen base put him in scoring position. Carey's single drove him in to make the score 9-0. After Monaco was hit by the pitcher, D'Ecclessis singled and drove in Carey to end the game 10-0 under the 10 Run rule.
