Summit had the misfortune to open its season against one of the most highly regarded pitchers in the state. Dover's Mike Hrynio had his stuff today and allowed Summit only 3 hits while he struck out eight. Summit scored first in the bottom of the 1st inning, after Matt Williams had pitched his way out of a bases loaded no-out situation. Mike Nelson got on via an error, stole second and came in when Matt Benedetti hit a double to center field. That was the first of Benedetti's two extra base hits. The second was a towering three-bagger that would have been a home run in any ballpark that had a fence. Dover picked up four runs in the second inning and two more in the 4th to put the game away.

There were some silver linings in the game. On two occasions Dover loaded the bases with no one out and Matt Williams was able to pitch his way out without giving up a run. Both times he did it by handcuffing Dover's 4,5,6 hitters. Williams managed 8 strikeouts, equaling Hrynio's total. Finally, Steve Bariexca came in relief in the 7th inning and put out the side on 7 pitches.
