Matt Williams pitched a terrific ball game.  He allowed only 5 hits, gave up only 1 base on balls and struck out nine. You can't ask much more from a pitcher. Unfortunately, Summit's heavy bats remained under wraps (only 14 hits in 80 at bats so far this season) and the defense had a momentary lapse that allowed GL the winning runs. This was quite a pitchers duel as GL's Gropper only gave up 3 hits.

GL scored first in the 4th inning with a pair of singles and a stolen base. The winning runs came in the 6th inning. After one out, GL singled to left and the throw in got away from the infielder allowing the runner to get to scoring position at 2nd base. The next batter struck out but the ball was dropped and the throw to first was too high and the runner on second scored. The batter wound up at second. This was followed by another GL hit that scored the runner from 2nd. Summit managed its only run in the bottom of the eighth. After one out, Williams singled and was drivien in by a Matt Benedetti single. In Summit's last at bat some hopes were raised when, with two out, Rob Delgado was walked and Mike Mormak was safe on a GL error. However, a hard hit ground ball back to the pitcher ended the game.
