It all came to such a sad ending. For the second game in a row Summit went into the final inning needing just 3 outs to win the game but walked off the field with a loss. Mike D'Ecclessis, in his first outing of the season, pitched well for the first 4 innings. During his stint he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and left with a 4-3 lead. Steve Bariexca took over in the 5th inning and retired the first six batters he faced. He went into the bottom of the 7th inning with a 5-3 lead. Unfortunately, the first two batters in the 7th got on base with two crisp singles. Matt Williams came on at this point in relief. With runners on 1st and 2nd it was clear that Hanover Park would try to bunt them into scoring position. The batter laid down a good bunt and the throw was wide to first base. What made matters worse, the ball did not roll out of play. So by the time it was retrieved the two runners had scored and the sacrifice bunter was on 3rd base. Now the score was tied, a runner was at 3rd and there were no outs. The next batter singled home the winning run for Hanover Park.

Summit picked up two runs in the 1st inning when Mike Nelson was hit by the pitcher and Ryan Carey doubled to drive in Nelson. Carey stole 3rd and scored on a subsequent error. Carey scored again in the 3rd inning. He got on via an error and stole both 2nd and 3rd. A sacrifice fly by Nick Monaco scored Carey. Another run came in the 4th inning. Matt Benedetti singled and stole second. He went on to 3rd base on the overthrow by the catcher. He scored when the 2nd baseman bobbled Nick Monaco's ground ball. The final Summit run resulted from a pair of hits by Nelson and Benedetti. Summit stranded 10 runners while Hanover Park left only 3 on base.

Coach Dietz apparently felt it was time to make some lineup changes as he moved Nelson to the leadoff slot, moving Carey to the #4 position. Bareixca started in right field and Williams and Carey swapped infield and outfield roles.
