This game got off to a fine start with Summit picking up 3 runs in the first inning with the only hit being Ryan Carey's lead-off double, 3 walks and an error by the Mendham shortstop. Mendham got a break in the 3rd inning when they picked up 2 unearned runs via a double by Mendham's Parrish and a pair of Summit errors. However, the big damage was done in the 4th inning. Paul Krupa had sailed through the first 3 innings allowing only 2 hits. In the 4th Mendham began to tag him with hard shots. Six singles and a couple of Summit errors led to 5 runs and Steve Bariexca came on in relief. Bariexca gave up one more run before extinguishing the rally with Mendham up 8-3. In the top of the 6th Mendham picked up a 9th run off 2 singles and a stolen base. Matt Williams led off the Summit 6th with a crisp single, but was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch it to a double. Mike Nelson singled, Matt Benedetti was safe on an error and Nick Monaco walked to fill the bases. The Summit fans wondered what might have been if Williams had been safe at second. But Summit was only able to eventually score only one run in the inning. Summit's final shot at a rally came in the bottom of the 7th inning when Nelson got a leadoff double and Benedetti singled. A sacrifice fly by Monaco scored one runner, but that was the end of it.

Note : Saturday's game in the Millburn tournament has been changed. Summit will play GL at 11AM.
