Matt Williams must be wondering what it takes to get a "Win". On Saturday, against GL, he pitched a 5 hit, 1 walk game and came out on the short end. Today he pitched a 3 hitter, again allowing only 1 walk, and still he lost by a run. Unfortunately, Summit's offense could only deliver 2 hits.
Summit grabbed a 2 run lead in the 2nd inning. Nick Monaco led off by getting on base due to an error and went to 2nd on an errant pickoff throw. After two strikeouts, Rob Delgado delivered one of Summit's two hits to drive in the run. Parsippany got all 4 of their runs ,two of them unearned, in the bottom of the 4th inning. Parsippany's leadoff batter got on base on an error and moved to third on the next batter's double. On the next ground ball the infielder tried to throw out the runner at home instead of getting the batter out. The runner beat the throw and and now there were runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs. Another double scored both base runners to make the score 3-2. After a strikeout, the next batter hit a fly to center. Matt Benedetti rifled a shot to home but the runner was called safe on a very close call.
Summit picked up another run when Ryan Carey was walked and he stole 2nd and 3rd. Mike Nelson brought him home on a sacrifice fly. Parsippany brought in a relief pitcher for the 6th and 7th innnings and he completely shut Summit without a single base runner.
The Weequahic game has been rescheduled for Thursday 4/12. However, predicted rain may force a further postponement.
