Matt Williams pitched another masterful game, and this time he got some offensive support. Williams allowed only 2 hits over the five innings the games lasted. In fact, West Essex managed only 4 base runners. As an indication of how well Williams had his pitching under control, he did not walk a single batter. Over the last 3 full games (18 innings) that he has pitched he has only put two batters on base with walks. Quite an achievement.

The Summit offense took good advantage of their 6 hits, 6 walks and 6 West Essex errors to pile up 10 runs. As an example of their heads up play, Mike nelson scored the first run when he was walked, stole 2nd and stole 3rd. Matt Benedetti was walked and when he stole 2nd Nelson raced home on the West Essex throw to 2nd base. Summit scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning with only one hit. Nelson began the inning by getting on via an error and stole 2nd. Benedetti was Walked and both runners advanced on a double steal. An error on a Nick Monaco ground ball allowed both runners to score and left Monaco on 2nd. With one out, Paul Krupa got on via another error and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Rob Delgado contributed the only hit of the inning, a single, and drove in Monaco and Krupa. Yet another West Essex error put Steve Bariexca on base and moved Delgado to 3rd where a Ryan Carey Sacrifice fly to center field brought home the final run of the inning. At long last the breaks went our way.

Summit scored two more runs in the 4th inning off single by Benedetti, a walk to Monaco and a single by Krupa. The final two runs of the game came in the 5th. Carey was walked , Nelson singled and Benedetti drove them in with a booming double.
