Steve Bariexca pitched another fine game, advanced his record to 4-0 and assured Summit that it would have a spot in the State Tournament. Bariexca wobbled a bit at the start. He gave up a walk and 2 singles to the first 3 batters, but then settled down and allowed only two hits over the next 6 innings. In going the distance Bariexca struck out 10 batters.

Summit picked up 2 runs in the initial inning when Mike Nelson was walked and Matt Williams and Matt Benedetti singled. Two more runs came in the 3rd inning without getting a hit. Walks to Benedetti and Nick Monaco was followed by an error on Paul Krupa's ground ball. A sacrifice fly by Chris Kaiser resulted in the 2nd run. The 5th inning yielded 2 more runs. The inning started with a Benedetti double and was followed by singles by Carey, Monaco, Kaiser and Bariexca. The final four runs came in the 6th inning. Nelson led off by getting on base with an error. Singles by pinch hitter Mike D'Ecclessis (who now has 5 hits in 6 at bats) and Benedetti were followed by an error on the WE shortstop when he booted Carey's ground ball. That error resulted in 2 runs for Summit. Another single by Monaco drove in a run and the final run scored on a ground out by Krupa.

The Hanover Park game, scheduled for Friday has been postponed to Thursday 5/17. That means that this victory assured Summit of at least a .500 season at the cutoff date of Friday (5/11).
