Summit put its new Year 2000 offense on display in a rousing 17-0 victory. Delaware Valley's passing game sputtered as they completed only 9 of 32 attempts, while yielding 3 interceptions. At the same time Summit's wide open passing game clicked on 15 of 29 attempts for a whopping 234 yards. Summit's first score came at the end of the first quarter after Summit had moved the ball 58 yards in 8 plays to the Delaware Valley's 3 yard line. A Mike Nelson TD was called back by a penalty that moved Summit back to the 20 yard line. On 4th down Keith Schroeder booted a 38 yard field goal that probably would have been good from 48 yards.

Summit got its next chance on its second possession of the 2nd quarter after DV turned the ball over on a fumble ( one of five fumbles they coughed up) on their 39 yard line. Two passes to Matt Benedetti took the ball to the one yard line, where Schroeder scored on a QB sneak. Schroeder also kicked the extra point. On DV's next series Schroeder intercepted a pass on Summit's 44. After two incomplete passes, Schroeder connected with Chris Jones for a first down on DV's 46. On the next play Jones hauled in a 40 yarder to put the ball on the 6 yard line. Pass interference moved the ball to the 3 yard line, where Nelson scored. Again Schroeder added the extra point.

In the third quarter Summit twice had the ball with a first down inside DV's 20, but an interception and a fumble stopped both scoring opportunities. Early in the 4th quarter Summit moved from it's 47 to DV's 9 behind the running of Nelson and a great catch by Benedetti. On 4th down at the 11 yard line Schroeder's field goal attempt went wide. The entire 4th quarter was basically a holding action with DV desperately trying to play catch-up, but to no avail.

Except for a penetration to Summit's 17 yard line at the very end of the first half., DV never really threatened to score and the farthest they got into Summit's territory was the 45 yard line. At the end of the 3rd quarter Nelson injured his ankle and spent the rest of the game with an ice pack taped to his ankle. We can only hope that the injury isn't serious because in Summit's new offensive line up he is the only running back in the formation.
