Summit surprised heavily favored Hanover Park early in the game by grabbing a 9-0 1st quarter lead. Summit's first score came after Hanover Park turned the ball over on a fumble at their own 34 yard line. Keith Schroeder was sacked back on the 47 on the first play. Fortunately good runs by Nick Monaco and Schroeder gave Summit a first down on the 21. A pair of passes to Coviello resulted in the TD. After a Hanover Park punt, Summit took over on the Summit 40. A pass to Matt Benedetti and runs by Mike Nelson and Schroeder gave Summit a 2nd and one on the HP 10 yard line. But the drive stalled and Schroeder kicked a 30 yard field goal.

Hanover Park bounced back in the 2nd quarter with a pair of TDs. The first came on a 76 yard, 15 play drive and the second on 1 play 45 yard pass. That gave Hanover Park its first lead of the game, 14-9. Summit took the kickoff and and went 73 yards for a touchdown. The bulk of the yardage came from three passes; 19 yard screen pass to Monaco, a 13 yarder to Coviello and a 33 yard TD pass to Matt Williams. That last pass went 33 yards in the air and Williams made a spectacular catch in heavy coverage. Summit left the field at halftime with a 15-14 lead.

Unfortunately, the 2nd half was a different story. Hanover Park scored two TDs on a 25 yard pass and a 41 yard run. Down 28-15, things looked bleak for Summit. However, the Summit fans took hope when Summit took the next kickoff and returned it to the Summit 38. A pass to Nelson moved the ball to the Hanover Park 18 yard line. Six plays later Benedetti scored on a 5 yard pass. Schroeder added the extra point and Summit had climbed back into the game (28-22). Hanover Park put the game away by scoring again on a 39 pass play.

Hanover Park beat Summit at its own game, the pass. HP connected on 9 of 16 attempts for 183, including 3 long TD passes. Summit's defense repeatedly held Hanover Park to 3rd-and-long situations, but HP was successful on 5 of the 8 occasions. Hanover Park is now 7-1 and will get a very high seed in the State Tournament.
