It may seem hard to believe, looking at the final score and the statistics, that Summit could have been in this game had it not been for a pair of costly turnovers in the first half. The first turnover halted a Summit drive on the Morris Hills 6 yard line in the 1st quarter. A score would have put Summit up by a TD. The second turnover occurred in the 2nd quarter when a Morris Hills punt was mishandled and MH took over on the Summit 39 yard line. This second turnover led to Morris Hills only TD of the 1st half. In spite of the turnovers, the statistics were fairly even in the 1st half with MH having the edge in total offense 156 to 109.

The 2nd half started badly when, after a bad MH snap on a punt attempt had led to a Summit possession on the MH 28 yard line, Morris Hills intercepted the second pass attempt. That pretty much took the wind out of Summit's sails and things went downhill fast. The 2nd half ended with Summit completing only 2 of 11 passes and generating only 7 yards of total offense in those final 24 minutes.

Summit's running game was severely hampered by the loss of Mike Nelson, who was on the sidelines recovering from an ankle injury suffered in the Mendham game

Note: The term "Other Yards" includes such things as yardage lost when the QB is sacked or when the ball is snapped over a punter's head.
