Summit played its second game without four of its starters. Caldwell, the 7th seed in the Group2 Sectional, was a much stronger team than the previous opponent, Mt. Olive. Summit's fans got to get a glimpse of the talent that will make up the nucleus of next years squad and all-in-all they left in an optimistic frame of mind.

Summit struggled in the first half and Alex Sprinzen got in early foul trouble and had to spend most of the half on the bench. Even so, Summit was still only 6 point behind at the half. Unfortunately, Sprinzen picked up his fourth foul in the 3rd quarter and Caldwell had a hot 3-point hand. The result was that Summit fell behind 40-30 at the end of the 3rd quarter and things looked pretty bleak.

Tony Johnson led off the 4th quarter with 3 free throws and Sprinzen added a field goal to cut the lead in half. FGs by Steve Bariexca and Sprinzen left Summit down only by 1 point. Caldwell and Sprinzen traded field goals and with 90 seconds left the score was 41-42. Caldwell managed 2 FGs and their lead was back to 5 points with about 30 seconds left. Johnson scored for Summit with 21 seconds on the clock and the lead was back to 3 points. Unfortunately, Summit was forced to foul and Caldwell sank both free throws, but Sprinzen drained a 3-pointer. Summit quickly fouled and Caldwell made one of two with 6 seconds remaining. That put the score at 49-46. Sprinzen' s 3-point attempt just before the buzzer fell short.

Sprinzen led the scoring with 18 points and had 6 rebounds. Sophomore Johnson was also in double figures with 10 points.
