This was such a sad loss that it is hard to write about it. Summit had taken a 4 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. This was accomplished behind a barrage of five 3 point field goals in the quarter. Chris Jones hit three and Ryan Carey had a pair. Cranford got back to a 1 point deficit at 50-49, but two free throws and a FG by Carey and another FG by Dan Dugan gave Summit a 7 point lead at 56-49, its largest of the game. But from that point on things fell apart.
Cranford turned up the pressure, employing a very effective trapping defense that led to three consecutive turnovers. Cranford took advantage of the turnovers and tied the score 56-56 with 90 seconds remaining. On the next possession Summit again was forced into a turnover without getting off a shot. Cranford eventually scored to take a 2 point lead. Summit failed to score on their next possession and was forced to foul Cranford in hopes of getting the ball back. Cranford's Snyder hit the first free throw to make it a 3 point lead. He missed the second, giving Summit a chance, but Cranford managed to gain the rebound and went to the line again. This time both free throws went down and Summit was behind by 5 points with only seconds to play. A final steal led to Cranford's final FG, but the game was already over. Cranford had scored the final 14 points of the game.
Ryan Carey had a big scoring night hitting 9 of 14 shots and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line. His 27 points were a season high. Chris Jones was on fire from outside the 3-point line as he drained five. Alex Sprinzen and Lamar Freeman each pulled down 7 rebounds.
