This game was even closer than the final score would indicate. With less than 2 minutes to go Summit was down by 2 points (43-45) and had the ball. Summit failed to scored and Mendham was fouled on their next possession. They made both free throws. Summit was forced to foul every time Mendham got the ball and unfortunately Mendham was perfect from the foul line and the scoring gap continued to grow. Foul shots played a big roll in deciding the outcome of the game as Mendham went to the foul line 17 times and sank 14 of the shots. In contrast, Summit was only 2 for 4 in foul shots.
Alex Sprizen led the first quarter attack with 6 points and Summit took a 12-8 lead. Mendham's Wenderfer caught fire in the 2nd quarter with 12 points and Mendham cut Summit's lead to one point (24-23). Summit's 3rd quarter featured 6 points by Ryan Carey, but Mendham managed to take the lead 37-33, but it was still anyone's ball game. Fatigue began to play a role in the 2nd half as Mendham's deeper bench allowed their starters to get some rest. The starting five for Summit played essentially the entire game with only Greg Mortenson providing a few minutes of relief. Even though Summit lost the game they showed that they can play at the same level as the best in the conference.
Lamar Freeman led the Summit scoring with 14 points. Sprinzen and Carey were also in double figures. Mendham's Wenderfer led all scorers with 25 points.
