Fri 12/01 7PMClifton - Floyd Hall Lost 3-1 Junior Craig Oliver took advantage of a scramble in front of the net midway through the first period to knock in Summit's first goal of the '00-'01 season. Clifton tied the game on a power play goal early in the third period and tallied two insurance goals to pull away. Senior Richard James was solid in goal, turning away 20 shots. Juniors Matt Starker and Keith Schroeder assisted on Oliver's tally.
Tue 12/05 830PMParamus - Warinanco Tied 2-2 Junior Matt Starker knocked in two goals to stake Summit to a 2-0 lead after two periods. Paramus Catholic knocked in a short handed goal 16 seconds into the third period and a heartbreaker with 56 seconds left to forge a tie. Richard James was solid in goal. Starker's second goal was an unassisted beauty tucked in the lower right corner. Craig Oliver assisted on the first goal.
Mon 12/11 830PMOld Bridge (Cron Tourn) Won 5-2 OldBridge scored in the first 30 seconds of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Fortunately, Mike Nelson answered with the tieing goal just 16 seconds later. Matt Starker fired in 2 goals later in the 1st period to build Summit's lead to 3-1. Old Bridge scored the only goal of the 2nd period to close to within 1 goal. Third period goals by Matt Bell and Starker put the game away. Starker picked up Summit's first Hat Trick of the season. Starker, Oliver, Rob Schroeder, Keith Schroeder, Mike Sartorius and Kyle Kramer each had an assist.
Fri 12/15 9PMDon Bosco - Sport O Rama  Won 4-2 Keith Schroeder scored 3 times and Rob Schroeder once to account for all the summit goals. Matt Starker had 2 assists and Craig Oliver tallied one assist.
Mon 12/18 830PMMendham 830PM Won 5-1 Craig Oliver and Matt Starker had 2 goals apiece to lead a very balanced effort. Mike Nelson chipped in with a goal and an assist, Starker and Keith Schroeder each added two assists. Mike Sartorius and Rob Schroeder also had assists. Richard James was very strong again in goal, turning away 24 shots.

Cron Final
Lost 3-2 (OT) St. Joseph's scored in overtime to win the Cron title. Matt Starker and Rob Schroeder scored Summit's goals. 
Fri 12/22 815PMBayonne - Bayonne Won 5-3 Summit avenged last years State Championship defeat. Craig Oliver broke a 3-3 tie in the 3rd period and Summit went on to win. Mike Sartorius, Keith Schroeder and Matt Starker added a goal and an assist. Todd Ward also scored for Summit. Craig Oliver was credited with 2 assists and Mike Nelson had 3 assists. Nelson also exhibited great hustle at the defensive end if the rink. Summit fell behind 2-0 in the 1st period but pulled its act together for the win. Richard James had 18 saves, and again kept Summit in the game until they found their legs.
Thu 12/28 5PMToms River N - Winding River Tie 3-3 Summit found themselves behind 3-0 with only 7 minutes left to play. A pair of power play goals by Matt Starker brought Summit back to 3-2. Then with just 35 seconds on the clock Rob Schroeder took a shot from the point and Craig Oliver got his stick on it and scored the tieing goal. The game was marred by 17 penalties totaling to 44 minutes and was as intense as they come. Summit, who was out shot 16-3 in the 1st period, held a 17-4 shot advantage in the 3rd period. Richard James had 29 saves.  
Tue 01/02 830PMSt. Josephs (Mont) - Warinanco Won 7-2 Keith Schroeder and Craig Oliver scored 2 goals apiece and Junior Matt Starker picked up 5 assists   Mike Nelson contributed a goal and an assist, Mike Sartorius and Matt Bell each had a goal, Kyle Kramer had 2 assists and Schroeder had an assist to go with his 2 goals. Starker's 5 assists gave him110 career points and broke the the old record of 109 points held by Steve Schroeder.
Thur 01/04 Morris Hills @ Warinanco Won 5-3 Mike Nelson led Summit's scoring with 2 goals and an assist. Summit took a 4-2 lead in the 2nd quarter when Nelson, Matt Starker and Doug Kramer each scored and had an assist. .

Tue 01/09 830PMMontclair - Warinanco Won 2-0 Richard James fought off a flurry of 14 shots in the 3rd period to gain his first shut out of the season. James had a total of 29 saves. Matt Starker scored twice in the 1st period and that was all Summit needed for the victory.
Sat 01/13 5PMSt. Josephs (Mont) - Sport O Rama Won 2-1 With 3:32 remaining in the 2nd period Keith Schroeder took a pass from Mike Sartorius and tied the score 1-1. Then with just 16 seconds left in the same period Sartorius scored an unassisted goal to win the game. Both Summit scores came during power plays. Richard James was strong in goal with 20 saves.  
Tue 01/16 830PMToms River N - Warinanco Lost 5-3 Summit jumped to a quick lead 28 seconds into the game on a Craig Oliver goal. TRN hit on a power play 2 minutes later to tie it at1-1. Two minutes into the 2nd periods TRN scored to kae the lead, but Oliver tallied again (assisted by Mike Nelson) about a minute later. Just before the end of the period TRN struck for back to back goals about a minute apart. TRN entered the final period leading 4-1. TRN scored on a breakaway midway through the third period to seal the deal. Matt Starker knocked in a goal from Keith Schroeder about a minute later, but it was too little, too late.

Mon 01/29 8PMParamus Cath. - Ice House Won 2-1 Keith Schroeder scored in both the 2nd and 3rd periods to lead Summit.
Tue 01/30 830PMDom Bosco - Warinanco Won 6-0 Matt Starker hit for the hat trick, Keith Schroeder added 2 goals and 4 assists, and Richard James stopped 25 shots to lead Summit. Summit knocked in a quick goal about 2 minutes into the game and added 2 more just before the end of the first period as they totally dominated Don Bosco. In all facets, this was clearly Summit's best effort. Craig Oliver had the other goal, Starker added 2 assists, Mike Sartorius and Mike Nelson each grabbed an assist.
Sat 02/03 645PMMontclair - Montclair Won 2-1 Montclair scored in the first minute of the game. They maintained the lead until mid-way through the 2nd period when Mike Nelson scored. Mike Sartorius scored the winning goal at 8:20 into the 3rd period .  Keith Schroeder assisted on both goals. Richard James (19 saves) has allowed only 2 goals in the last 4 games.
Tue 02/06 830PMClifton - Warinanco Won 2-1 After a scoreless 1st period Clifton (#13 in the Star-Ledger) took a 1-0 lead midway through the 2nd period. Keith Schroeder tied the score on a power play at 10:42 left in the game. Craig Oliver and Matt Starker assisted on the goal. Subsequently, Oliver scored the winning goal on another power play. Mike Nelson and Starker assisted. Summit improved its record to 13-4-2.
Wed 02/07 515PMBergen Cath. - Ice House Lost 7-1 Kyle Kramer put Summit ahead 1-0 midway into the 1st period but Bergen Catholic tied the score a few minutes later. Things went down hill from there as Bergen Catholic scored 6 more unanswered goals.
Tue 02/12 830PMWestfield - Warinanco Won 10-3 Ken Bogden, Matt Starker, Mike Nelson, and Keith Schroeder each scored twice. Matt Bell and Jim Hatfield each scored once in Summit's highest scoring games of the year.  Rob Schroeder contributed 3 assists, Nelson, Keith Schroeder and Bogden had 2 assists each. Mike Sartorius, Jeff Sparrow, Starker, Craig Oliver and Eric Lupton each chipped in an assist.
Tue 02/20 830PM St. Joseph's (Mont.) @Warinanco Won 4-2 Matt Starker scored twice and Mike Nelson and Craig Oliver each added one goal. Starker also picked up 2 assists. Richard James had a good game in goal with 19 saves. Summit advanced to the semi-finals against Clifton on Thursday.

(Van Cott Cup)

Won 2-1 (Overtime Shoot Out) Summit was behind 1-0 with only a minute left on the clock when Kenny Bogden netted a loose puck to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless 10 minute overtime period, in which Richard James had 9 saves, the game went to a shoot out. James turned away four of the five Clifton attempts during the shoot out. Mike Nelson and Craig Oliver both scored during the shoot out to give Summit the edge. James finished the game with 36 saves. Summit will meet Toms River North on Saturday (5:30PM) at Warinanco for the title. (Star Ledger Story)
Sat 02/24 530PM Van Cott Finals @South Mtn. Lost 2-0 After a scoreless 1st period, Toms River North turned up the offensive heat and put Richard James under sever pressure. James respond heroically, but TRN scored four minutes into the period. James continued to keep Summit in the game with great saves (34 in all, 15 in the 3rd period alone). With about six minutes left in the game TRN managed to get their second goal.
Tue 02/27 830PM Nutley @ Warinanco Won 3-1 After a scoreless 1st period, Nutley took the lead 1-0 about 6 minutes into the 2nd period. About a minute later, Matt Starker scored twice in the space of 18 seconds. It remained a 2-1 game until Starker scored the insurance goal, on a power play, with 1 minute left in the game. Once again Richard James was key in gaining the victory. Summit was out shot 28-12, but James turned away 27 of Nutley's shots.
Thur 03/01 330PM Ridge @ Warinanco Won 5-4 (OT Shoot out) Ridge seemed to dominate play for most of the 1st period. They scored first at 8:15 and then scored twice more in a 32 second interval. So with 3:32 remaining Ridge held a 3-0 advantage. The Summit fans were hoping for goal before the period ended and were rewarded when Craig Oliver scored at 1:10. Summit's intensity began to pickup and 25 seconds later Rob Schroeder scored to close the gap to one goal. About 5 minutes into the 2nd period Mike Nelson got his own rebound and scored to tie the game. The 2nd period ended in a 3-3 tie. Early in the 3rd period Nelson scored to put Summit on top 4-3. It stayed that way for the next 8 minutes but Ridge managed to tie things with 4 minutes to play. After a scoreless 10 minute overtime, the game moved to a shoot out. Richard James stopped Ridge's first attempt and Nelson scored to give Summit the advantage. James again stopped Ridge and this time Keith Schroeder came off the bench and scored to put Summit up by two. In the 3rd shoot out round both teams failed. Ridge managed it's first goal in the 4th round but Oliver ended the game when he scored in the 4th round.
Wed 03/07 830PM Clifton @ Warinanco Lost 3-2 After 22 minutes of scoreless hockey, Clifton erupted with 3 goals in the space of 3 1/2 minutes. The last of the three was a bit of a fluke as a wide shot ricochetted off a skate for the score. Craig Oliver got back one goal with 33 sec left in the 2nd period when he netted the rebound of a Matt Starker shot. Then, early in the 3rd period, Keith Schroeder scored to make the score 3-2. Schroeder also got his score off a rebound of a Starker shot. It was a rough game and tempers flared as Summit upped the pressure as they struggled to tie the score. With 2:06 left Summit was hit with a penalty, but kept up the pressure, even down a player. Eventually Summit pulled its Goalie. Unfortunately, Summit was hit by another penalty and was now down two players and the clock ran out.
