First game miscues contributed to Summit's opening game loss. The miscues didn't result in "errors" but were more of the "bad choices" variety. With the game tied 3 - 3 in the bottom of the 6th, the Dover leadoff hitter was walked. He advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. The next player hit into a straight forward fielder's choice but a moment's hesitation and a questionable call at 3rd base resulted in no out. The next batter hit safely as the result of a bit of an Alfonse and Gaston routine by the Summit defense. That would have been the final out but instead resulted in the winning run.

Summit picked up a run in the 1st inning when Matt Williams started the game with a walk, stole 2nd and was driven home by Nick Monaco's single. Dover picked up 3 runs in the 2nd inning and Summit tied it up with 2 runs in the 3rd. With 2 outs, Jeff Della Piazza singled and stole 2nd. Evan Cheng singled to drive in one run. He moved into scoring position when the Dover pitcher balked. Paul Johnson provided another single to drive in Cheng and tie the game. Earlier, in the 2nd inning, Summit had a great opportunity when Johnson singled after one out, and both Mike Mormak and Ben Torres were hit by the pitcher. That brought the top of the order to bat with the bases loaded and only one out. Unfortunately, nothing came of it.

Williams pitched a much better game than his statistics would lead you to believe. After giving up the 3 run 2nd, he really settled down and went the next 3 innings without giving up a hit. With just a little luck there wouldn't have been any Dover runs in the 6th inning either.
