If your weren't at this game you missed arguably the best played game of the season. It featured beautiful pitching, flawless defense by both teams and an exciting 7th inning win by Summit. Let's start with Matt Williams' pitching. Williams really had his stuff going. He gave up 3 singles in the first three innings and then shut the door on Hanover Park. He put down the final 12 batters in order.

Entering the top of the 7th Hanover Park's Saleman had allowed only 2 hits and had faced only 15 batters in the 5 innings leading up to the 7th inning. Matt Williams was the lead off hitter and promptly slapped the 2nd pitch for a single. Paul Krupa followed suit by singling on the 2nd pitch he faced. With runners on 1st and 2nd Jeff Della Piazza was called on to bunt them around to 2nd and 3rd. He executed his assignment perfectly. A ground ball by Nick Monaco almost scored a run, but Williams was thrown out on a very close play at the plate. Now there were 2 outs with runners at 1st and 2nd and Mike Mormak at the plate. As luck would have it Saleman threw his only wild pitch of the game and that moved the runners to 2nd and third. Mormak fell behind in the count with 2 strikes and 2 balls. He managed to foul off a good pitch to stay alive and on the next pitch cracked a clean clutch single to score both runners and put Summit up 2-0.

However, there were still three more Hanover Park outs that had to be recorded, and they were the number 4-5-6 batters. Williams got the #4 batter to pop up to him. The # 5 hitter grounded out to the 2nd baseman. Williams ended things appropriately by striking out the last batter.

Matt Williams is now 5-2 with an ERA of 2.59
