For the first three innings this was one of the most inept games of the season. When the 3rd inning was over each team had made 4 errors and a total of 10 unearned runs. Fortunately, by then Summit was up 8-6. The first of Summit's 4 runs in the 1st inning was earned when Matt Williams started things off with a triple and Steve Bariexca doubled. However, things went downhill from there as the next three Summit batters to reach base did so as the result of egregious errors by Millburn. Mike Mormak drove in the final run of the inning with a nice double.

Summit returned the favor by contributing 2 errors on the way to 4 unearned runs in the 2nd inning. After the 2nd error, starting pitcher Paul Krupa's mental outlook seemed pretty depressed and he walked 3 consecutive batters before ending the inning with a fly ball to center. Summit picked up a legitimate run in the 2nd to get back on top 5-4. Bariexca came on in relief to start the third inning but the errors continued and Millburn picked up 2 more unearned runs and regained the lead 6-5. The third inning began with Jeff Johnson getting on base via yet another error, Mormak walked and Evan Cheng singled to tie the score. Two more runs came across when Williams smashed his 2nd triple of the game and Summit was back ahead 8-6.

At this point the game settled down to a pitcher's duel and neither team scored for the next 3 innings. When Millburn came to bat in the top of the 7th they needed 2 runs to tie the game. The first two batters were issued walks and the Millburn catcher tried to sacrifice bunt them into scoring position but the ball popped up a bit and Bariexca made a great diving catch for the out. The next player hit into a fielder's choice for the second out. Only one out to go. Unhappily, the next batter stroked a line shot to left field. Kevin McNeil made a great effort to get to the ball, but it bounced off his fingertips. Suddenly the game was tied.

In the Summit 7th the first two batters made outs and it was beginning to look like extra innings. With two outs, Cheng worked a walk and McNeil singled to keep hope alive. With the count 3 and 2 Williams won the game with a shot that would have been another triple, or maybe a home run, but went into the book as a single since the game ended as soon as Cheng crossed the plate with the winning run.
