Summit returned to its winning ways against Union County rival Scotch Plains. Summit drew first blood in the 2nd inning. Mike Mormak was walked to open the inning and Evan Cheng was safe on an error. Then, after 1 out, consecutive singles by Matt Williams, Steve Bariexca and the pitcher, Paul Krupa, drove in the runs. Scotch Plains threatened in the top of the 3rd inning when a Summit error, back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt brought in one run and left runners in 2nd and 3rd with only one out. Krupa pitched his way out of the jam with only then one run crossing the plate. Summit made it 6-1 with 2 more runs in the 4th inning. A single by Krupa, walks to Nick Monaco and Jeff Della Piazza and a double by Jeff Johnson did the damage.
Scotch Plains got back one run in the 5th inning, but this was countered by a Williams single and a Krupa triple in the bottom half of the inning. Scotch Plains made it 7-3 with a run in the 6th inning. In the top of the 7th inning Scotch Plains really made Krupa work hard for the victory. After the count reached 3-2 the first batter fouled off 6 consecutive pitches before finding one he liked, which he smacked for a triple. The following batter got to 2-2 , fouled off a pair of pitches, and then singled in a run. The next batter repeated the process fouling off 2 pitches after getting to a 3-2 count. A bad pattern seemed to be developing but Krupa got this batter to fly out to deep right field and the jinx was broken. The next two batters went out quietly and Krupa picked up the victory.
