Through the 1st quarter it appeared that this was going to be a close defensive battle. However, early in the 2nd quarter Mendham began to accumulate a lot of yards on the ground, moving the ball to Summit's 32 yard line. From there Mendham connected on pass for the TD. After the kickoff, Keith Schroeder was in a shot gun formation at the Summit 20 yard line when the snap went over his head and was recovered in the end zone for a 2nd Mendham score. For most of the 1st half the Summit's passing offense struggled, completing only 4 of 13 attempts.

Summit kicked off beginning the 2nd half and Mendham scored on 5 running plays. The last play being a 40 yard dash for the score. After an early 4th quarter punt by Summit, Mendham ripped off a 61 yard run for their final score.

The only bright spot in the 4th quarter was the performance of Sophomore Dwight Reid who reeled in 3 4th quarter Schroeder passes for a total 123 yards and a TD. Summit went for a 2-point conversion and Reid recovered a Schroeder fumble in the end zone for the 2 points.
