On Summit's first possession Morris Hills intercepted a Keith Schroeder pass and returned the ball 60 yards for a TD. Fortunately, the extra point kick went wide. After an exchange of punts, Summit took over on their own 33 yard line. Two runs by White and a QB sneak by Schroeder gave Summit a 1st down at the 45. Runs by Todd Ward and White, followed by a pass to JP Coviello, produced a 1st down at the Morris Hills 44 yard line. On the next play White broke loose for the TD. Schroeder's kick was perfect and Summit was on top 7-6. As it would turn out, that would be all the scoring in the game. Summit never really mounted a threat for the remainder of the game. In fact, Summit only penetrated Morris Hills' turf once more, in the 4th quarter. On that possession a pair of passes to Coviello and nice run by White gave Summit a first down on the MH 33 yard line. On 4th down from the 25 a Schroeder pass was dropped to end Summit's only threat.
Morris Hills' best chance to score came in the 2nd quarter when they drove to Summit's 8 yard line. On first down the moved the ball to the 5, but a penalty pushed them back to the 19. On the next play Jeff Della Piazza intercepted a pass to end the drive. Morris Hills' next chance to score came in the 3rd quarter when they recovered a Summit fumble on Summit's 29 yard line. They ran the ball to the 17 for a 1st down, but there the drive stalled. They tried a 33 yard field goal that went just wide of the goal posts. Two other 4th quarter sorties into Summit territory were ended by interceptions by Schroeder and Nick Monaco respectively.
This game was quite the reverse of Summit's first two games as Summit gained almost all of it's yards on the ground while Morris Hill's best weapon was its passing game.
