The defensive battle resumed with no one able to mount a sustained drive until the final series of the 1st half. Summit took over on their 14 yard line following an NP punt. Summit moved to a 1st down on the NP 47 yard line largely behind the running of Jeff Della Piazza and receptions by Nick Monaco (5 yds) and Evan Cheng (9 yds). On the next play Keith Schroeder hit Coviello at the 19, but a personal foul after the play moved the ball back to the 34 yard line. Schroeder ran for a 1st down to the 20 and then hit Coviello at the 10. Two carries by Della Piazza made it 3rd and goal from the 2 yard line. Unhappily, on the next play Schreoder was tackled on the 8 and a 4th down pass fell incomplete as the half ended.
New Providence picked up another score when Coviello was forced to punt from the very back of the end zone. He lifted a fine 45 yard punt but New Providence still had great field position on the Summit 48 yard line. A Summit penalty moved the ball to the 40 yard line where New Providence completed the second of its two completions for 33 yards to the 7 yard line. From there they ran it in to open a 14-0 lead. Steve Kohut took the kick off and returned it to the Summit 38 yard line. From there Summit put together a 13 play scoring drive to close to within 7 points. The drive was highlighted by the running of Marquis White and Della Piazza and receptions by Monaco and Coviello. The drive culminated in a 4 yard TD pass to Chris Dean. There was plenty of time left as Summit kicked off and forced New Providence to punt. Summit got the ball back on their 24 yard line. But disaster struck as Summit turned the ball over on a fumble. Summit put up a strong defense but 7 plays later New Providence scored. To Summit's credit they weren't about to quit. Summit drove 75 yards for a score in 11 plays, almost exclusively via passes to Cheng, Coviello and Rob Schroeder. The score came on a 13 yarder to Coviello. The ensuing on-side kick failed and New Providence ran out the clock.
