West Essex got the game off to a fast start. On their 3rd play from scrimmage Dorso, their speedy sophomore, out ran Summit's defense for a 54 yard TD. Summit answered with a 13 play drive that stalled at the WE 17 yard line. From there, Keith Schroeder kicked a 35 yard Field Goal. Summit forced WE to punt and Summit took over on its own 38 as the 1st quarter ended. On the 1st play of the 2nd quarter Schroeder threw a sideline pass to Matt Williams. Williams reeled it in and raced 62 yards, behind some nice interference from Coviello. to put Summit up 10-7. Unfortuantely, WE broke loose for a 36 yard TD run on their next possession to regain the lead 14-10. On WE's next possession they fumbled in the backfield and Rob Schroeder scooped up the ball 78 yards for a TD helped by a timely block from his brother Keith.
It remained Summit16- West Essex 14 for the next 23+ minutes of playing time until WE's final drive.
