In spite of shooting only 11 for 31 in the first half Summit held an 8 point lead at the end of the half. However, it probably should have been more like a 15 point lead if it weren't for some sloppy ball handling. The turnovers and weak shooting continued into the 3rd quarter and Mt. Olive proceeded to go on a 15 -3 run to grab a 38-34 lead late in the quarter.
Fortunately for Summit Matt Audibert came through with two field goals in a row, one a 3-pointer. That gave Summit a one point lead. A closing basket by Alex Sprinzen allowed Summit to end the quarter with a 41-38 lead. The Summit fans hoped that the team was back on track. Unfortunately, Mt. Olive had other ideas and scored the opening 4 point of the final quarter and with 7 minutes left they were back on top. But that was the last time they had the lead as Audibert again drained a 3 point field goal to put Summit up by 2 points. A pair of baskets by Dan Dugan (one a 3 pointer) increased the lead to 7 points. After a Mt. Olive basket Steve Bariexca scored to keep the lead at seven. Mt. Olive quickly reduced the lead to 4 before Baskets by Dugan and Sprizen put Summit up by 8 points with only 30 seconds left on the clock.
Through the first three quarters Summit manged to hit only 36% from the field. The final quarter was better as they hit on 6 of 12 shots to end up at 40% for the game. Fortunately, Summit was 8 of 10 from the foul line. Dugan led the team in scoring with 22 points and rebounds with 9.
Summit is assured a spot in the State Tournament since there are only 4 more game before the Feb 2nd cutoff date.
