Summit's slump continued with this loss to Mt. Olive. Summit has now lost 5 of its last 6 games, after starting 10 and 2. Summit started slowly and Mt. Olive took a 15-8 lead in the 1st quarter. Things got even worse in the 2nd quarter as Summit was out rebounded and out hustled by Mt. Olive. Summit managed only 4 rebounds in the entire first half. The half ended with the Mt. Olive on top 35-22. Dan Dugan's 14 points were the highlight of the half.
Coach Maxwell must have lit a fire under the team because they were much more aggressive in the 2nd half. Summit held Mt. Olive to 7 points in the 3rd quarter and, helped by Alex Sprinzen's 6 points, made it a 9 point game. The final quarter started out very well as 2 points by Dugan, 5 by Sprinzen and a 3-point field goal by Dwayne Reid brought Summit to within 2 points of Mt. Olive. However, that would be as close as Summit got as Mt. Olive was able to make the required free throws down the stretch and Summit's shooting came up dry.
In the final analysis Mt. Olive out scored Summit at the foul line 16 to 8. Dugan led all scorers with 22 points while Sprinzen added 17. Summit connected on 39% of its shots overall, but sank only 4 of 16 shots in the crucial final quarter.
