Jeff Johnson pitched a fine 5 hitter and didn't give up a walk until the 7th inning. Cranford, always a quality team, bunched 3 of their 5 hits in the 3rd inning as they took a 2-0 lead. In the 4th inning Jeff Della Piazza and Johnson started the inning with singles. Brad Dolny moved them to 2nd and 3rd with a good sacrifice bunt and Della Piazza scored when the 1st baseman made a error on a throw to 3rd base. Evan Cheng singled to drive in Johnson for the tieing run.

In the 5th inning Kevin McNeil led off with a single and Bariexca followed with a double to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Krupa was intentionally walked to load the bases and allow a force out at any base. Della Piazza hit a big sacrifice fly to allow McNeil to score. Cranford intentionally walked Dolny to again load the bases. Johnson hit a shot to the shortstop but he couldn't turn a double play and Bariexca came home to make it a 4-2 game.

The Cranford 6th started with a ground out but the 2nd batter was safe on a Summit error. The next batter doubled and suddenly the tieing runs were in scoring position with only one out. One run scored on a ground out to to Eric Smith and the other runner moved to 3rd base. The next batter hit a shot to short. McNeil knocked it down and got the runner at first.

Cranford's final at bat was filled with tension. After one out Johnson issued his first walk of the game to put the tieing run on base. A wild pitch moved the runner to 2nd base. Another ground ball to short resulted in the 2nd out but moved the tieing run to 3rd base. The number 9 batter drew a walk to bring up the leadoff batter. On a 1-1 count he hit a hard to shot toward 1st base. Noah Landau stopped the ball but was losing the race to 1st base. He lunged out and tagged the runner just before he reached base for the final out. The Cranford coach may still be at Memorial field arguing the call.
