Summit overcame a big deficit to win Millburn's Phil Krug Tournament in extra innings. Summit fell behind 5-0 after two innings but Steve Bariexca took charge and shutout GL over the final 6 innings. Meanwhile, Summit picked up 3 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 more in the 5th inning to tie things up. Summit had a golden opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 7th inning when they had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs but failed to score. Finally in the 8th inning Jeff Della Piazza hit a game winning drive to left with the bases loaded to give Summit its 4th win of the season.

GL picked up its 5 runs on only 3 hits 3 Summit errors. After that Bariexca scattered 4 hits over the final 6 innings. Summit's 3rd inning started with a leadoff single by Kevin McNeil. The bases were loaded by walks to Bariexca and Jeff Johnson. Paul Krupa's ground ball scored 1 run and 2 more came across when the GL left fielder dropped Della Piazza's deep fly ball to left field. In the 5th inning Johnson was walked with 1 out and surprisingly GL yanked their starting pitcher. His replacement threw 8 balls out of his first 10 pitches and suddenly the bases were loaded. GL pulled the the pitcher and replace him with Jason Hollowell (who had pitched the first time Summit and GL met). He immediately gave up a 2 run single to Brad Dolny and the game was tied.

In the bottom of the 7th inning Paul Krupa led off with a single and Della Piazza doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. A Fielder's choice got the runner at home but a subsequent wild pitch moved Della Piazza to 3rd with one out. Unfortuantely a pop up and a strikout ended regulation without generating a run. In the last of the 8th McNeil started things off by getting on base via an error. Bariexca's nice sacrifice bunt move McNeil into scoring position. Johnson drew a walk and Krupa was intnetionally walked to load the bases and allow a force play at any base. Della Piazza then smacked the first pitch over the left fielder's head to drive in the winning run.
