All the scoring came in the first two innings. From there on it was a real pitchers duel with Steve Bariexca and Linden's Mike Louviero allowing only 2 hits each. A major difference was that Linden played errorless ball while Summit committed 4 errors. However, only one of the Summit errors contributed any Linden runners scoring.

The first two innings really looked good for Summit's hitters. Kevin McNeil started the game by ripping a single but was cut down trying to steal 2nd base. Bariexca came up next and stroked a clean single and Summit's fans were thinking "what if ". Paul Krupa really crushed a ball to the left of the 3rd baseman. Unfortunately, the fielder managed to catch it inches off the ground and doubled off Bariexca who was almost to 2nd base on what he thought was a sure single. The result, 3 hard hit balls, 2 hits and no runs to show for it. Summit picked up its 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Jeff Della Piazza drew a lead off walk and Jeff Johnson blasted a ball to left center. The ball rolled under the fence for a ground rules double preventing Della Piazza from scoring. With one out, Brad Dolny slapped single driving in a run, but he was cut down trying to stretch it into a double. Johnson picked up the second run when he scored from 3rd base on a wild pitch.

Linden picked up their 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. The 1st batter walked but was thrown out trying to steal 2nd. Back-to back singles followed and an errant throw to 3rd allowed one run to score and moved a runner to 3rd base. A beautiful bunt drove in the 2nd run to tie the game. A double and a single produced the winning run.

Summit threatened in the 4th when Johnson hit a 1 out double to get into scoring position. The next two batters were struck out looking to end the threat. Again in the 5th Zach Barber led off with a single and moved to 2nd on a nice sacrifice bunt by Noah Landau. McNeil walked to put the go ahead run on base, but the next batters popped out to end the inning.

Except for the 3rd inning Bariexca allowed only 3 hits spread over the other 6 innings.
