Summit faced it's first game without the services of Jeff Johnson whose broken ankle has sidelined him for the season. Johnson had been expected to pitch this game and Eric Smith stepped up to take the start. He certainly did everything that could be expected of him. Except for the 3rd inning where 4 hits and 2 errors led to 3 runs, Smith was in complete control. It is worth noting that one of those 4 hits resulted from a fielder's choice that didn't work out. Smith didn't give up a single walk and struck out 4 batters. An outstanding effort.

Smith's Mendham counter part, Freshman Tim Miller, had Summit's number as he allowed only 3 hits all of which came in the 3rd inning. Summit scored in the 1st inning as Kevin McNeil walked, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a wild pitch. He scored on a Jeff Della Piazza ground out. The other Summit run came on singles by Noah Landau, Della Piazza and Paul Krupa.
