Summit got the season off to a good start on another cold and windy day at Mt. Olive. The Hilltoppers featured a 15 hit barrage and played errorless ball to pick up the victory. Steve Bariexca had a much better game than the statistics would suggest. Except for a brief let down in the 5th inning he was completely in charge. Summit entered the bottom of the 5th leading 10-2. After two easy outs and a hit batter, the next batter hit a ground ball that would normally have been the 3rd out. However, the runner was safe when the base wasn't covered in time. This opened the door to a temporary letdown and 4 hits and a walk later Mt. Olive had scored 5 runs. Bariexca regained command in the 6th and put down the final six batters in order, striking out the side in the final inning.

Summit picked up 2 runs in the 1st inning. Bariexca got on via an error, stole 2nd and came home on a single by Jeff Johnson. Johnson moved to 3rd when Mt. Olive mishandled a Paul Krupa ground ball and scored on Zack Barber's sacrifice fly. Summit garnered 6 more in the 3rd inning. Johnson got things started with an inside the park home run. This was followed by singles from Krupa, Evan Cheng, Brad Dolny, Bariexca and Johnson and a double from Jeff Della Piazza. Singles by Noah Landau, Kevin McNeil, Bariexca, and Krupa produced 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Three more runs in the top of the 7th completed the scoring. Bariexca got on by an error, Johnson followed with a single, and they both scored on an error on Krupa's grounder to 2nd. Singles by Cheng and Dolny resulted in the final run of the day.

Jeff Johnson led the hit parade with 3 singles, a home run, and 4 RBIs. Johnson might have had a 5th hit on a ground ball to 3rd base had not the 3rd baseman chosen to get Summit's runner on 2nd on a fielder's choice.
