This was a very interesting game for those who support Hilltopper baseball this year and are also thinking about the next year. Eric Smith, the only Junior pitcher still active in the varsity rotation, put on a stellar performance. He pitched a fine 1 unearned run , 3 hit game and put Summit back on the winning side of the ledger. Admittedly, Summit only managed 2 hits, but they were both in the 5th inning.

Parsippany picked up its one unearned run on an error and single in the top of the 5th inning. In the Summit 5th Bryan Lawton singled with one out and moved to 3rd on a single by Noah Landau. Lawton subsequently scored on a wild pitch and Landau wound up on 3rd base. That brought up the pitcher, Smith, with a chance to bring home the potential winning run. Coach Deitz called for a suicide squeeze and Smith executed a perfect bunt scoring Landau. Those were all the runs Summit would need as Smith held Parsipanny hitless over the final two innings. Some credit should go to Steve Bariexca who made 3 fine catches of very hard hit fly balls to center with a runner on base in the 6th inning.

This game may have set a record for the fastest 7 inning game of the season, lasting only 1 hour 30 minutes.
