Summit had held Parsippany Hills to a total of less than 70 yards through the first 3 quarters. In that same interval Summit had 3 possessions that penetrated inside the Parsippany Hills 20 yard line, yet they were unable to put any points on the scoreboard. As the 4th quarter began Parsippany Hills held Summit on downs and took over at their own 22 yard line. Suddenly it appeared Parsippany Hills was unstoppable as they reeled off a 78 yard, 12 play, drive that ended with Parsippany Hills being up 7-0 with only about 6 minutes left in the game.

Summit took the kick off and after a 14 yard reception by Chris Dean had 1st down at the Parsippany Hills 46. A holding call against Summit moved it back into Summit territory. After 3 straight sacks of Robbie Schroeder the ball was at Summit's 26 yard line and Summit was forced to punt. Parsippany Hills ran a lot of the time off the clock but failed to make a first down and was forced to punt. Summit got the ball back on their 18 yard line with only 1:14 left to play. Things looked particularly grim because Parsippany Hills had blitzed their line backers on almost every play, had sacked Schroeder 6 times and had forced him to rush at least that many more times. However, with only 74 seconds left, Parsippany Hills decided to take a more prevent oriented defense. That turned out to be a big mistake. With Schroeder having more time to set up, he hit Dwight Reid for a gain of 25 yards to the Summit 43 yard line. Schroeder connected with Brad Dolny coming across the middle and Dolny carried the ball all the way to the Parsippany Hills 32 yard line. On the very next play Schroeder found Dwight Reid in the end zone for a TD and it was 7-6. Freshman Will Gruetzmacher came on and kicked his 5th straight PAT to tie the game. Three passes, 83 yards, what a comeback! Summit kicked off but time ran out and the game went to overtime.

Summit lost the toss and had to go first from the 25 yard line. Jeff Della Piazza drove to the 20 and Tony Johnson moved it to the 17. On 3rd down Schroeder again hit Dolny across the middle and he ran it in for the TD. Gruetzmacher managed the extra point and it was now Parsippany Hills' turn to start from the 25 yard line. Two runs easily picked up a 1st down on the 14. The next run was stopped for no gain and a completed pass in the flat also netted no yardage. Another run moved the ball to the 10 yard line and it was 4th and 6. Parsippany Hills tried a 4th down pass but it fell incomplete and Summit had again snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
