After an initial exchange of punts Summit drove 82 yards in 11 plays for the initial score of the game. Alternating series of runs by Jeff Della Piazza and Tony Johnson gave Summtt a 1st down on the Parsippany 12 yard line. Runs by Della Piazza were sandwiched around an incomplete pass and resulted in a 4th and goal from the 5 yard line. Robbie Schroeder hit Brad Dolny in the end zone for the TD. Freshman Will Gruetzmacher hit the first of his 3 PATs and raised his record to 11 for 11 since taking over for the ailing Evan Cheng.

Parsippany was forced to punt on its next series and Summit started another drive, but a 3rd down interception was returned by Parsippany to Summit's 38 yard line. Eight plays later Parsippany was in the end zone. Fortunately, the PAT try went just wide right and the score was 7-6. On their next possession Summit was forced to punt and Parsippany took over on their 15 yard line. Four plays later they had move to Summit's 43. However, Dwayne Reid picked off a Parsippany pass to end the threat. As the teams left the field at the half there was considerable angst among the Summit fans.

Summit kicked off to begin the 2nd half and forced Parsippany to punt, giving Summit the ball on its 22 yard line. After a short gain by Johnson, a penalty moved the ball back to the 20. A 15 yard pass to Johnson was followed by a Johnson run of 27 yards. Della Piazza reeled off another 1st down with a 13 yard gain to the Parsippany 25. A pass to Dwight Reid gave Summit a 1st down at the 3 where Schroeder took it in for the score.

However, Parsippany fought back with a drive that started on it 20 yard line and quickly moved to a 1st and 10 at Summit's 41. Four plays later the ball was on the 31 but the chains had to brought in to measure. The Summit fans held their breath and were rewarded as Parsippany turned up short by just a few inches. The failure to make the crucial 1st down really took the fight out of Parsippany and they were unable to mount any further serious threats. Their final possession was ended by a Dolny interception.

Summit's final score started from the 31 yard line. The drive was highlighted by a 12 yard pass to Dwayne Reid and the running of Della Piazza and Johnson. The final 28 yard was covered by a Schroeder pass to Steve Kohut.

It was notable that both Dell Piazza (155 yards in 19 carries) and Johnson (123 yards in 15 carries) rushed for over 100 yards. That's first time Summit has had two runners over 100 yard in many years.
