If you looked just at the score you would be tempted to say this was an easy victory, it was anything but. Summit took a 10 point lead in the 1st quarter. That was cut to 8 by halftime. In the 3rd quarter Summit failed to score in the first four minutes and then it was only a free throw. With 3 minutes left Hacketstown closed to within 2 points. Fortunately Wellington Smith and Dwayne Reid scored the final 5 points of the quarter to get the lead back to 7 points.

The final quarter started badly. Hacketstown outscored Summit 9-2 in the opening 2 minutes to tie the game at 40-40. The standing room only crowd was going nuts and the noise level was tremendous. It was high school basketball at its best. The Summit fans were getting very nervous as Hacketstown got the ball back with a chance to take the lead for the first time, but it was not to be. A rebound and a fast break to Dwayne Reid put Summit on top 42-40. An exchange of free throws made it 43-41 with 5 minutes to play. Over the next 3 minutes a basket by Tony Johnson, two by Dwight Reid and two by Dwayne Reid made it a 12 point lead. It was suddenly 53-41 and there was only 1:49 left to play. The ball game was essentially over.

As has characterized Summit all season the scoring was nicely distributed over all five starters. In any given game any one of the starters may be the high scorer. In this case Tony Johnson hit on 7 of his 11 shots and had a total of 16 points. Dwayne Reid was close behind with 15 point. Dwight Reid had 9 rebounds.

Summit will play Roselle, the top seed, in the Sectional Semi-Final on Friday at 4PM in Roselle (assuming they beat Gov. Livingston)
