Summit headed to the locker room at half time with a 27-24 lead, led by Wellington Smith's 9 points, 6 rebounds and a number of blocked shots. However, a disastrous 3rd quarter where Summit scored only 6 points put Summit in a very deep hole. Mendham's 17 points in the 3rd gave them a 41-33 lead. At the beginning of the 4th quarter Mendham increased that lead to 12 points (45-33) and it looked like Summit was on the way to being blown out. But Summit put on a furious rally. Alex Sprinzen (7pts), Chris Dean (5 pts) and Dwight Reid (2 pts) helped Summit close the gap to 5 points (52-47) with a couple of minutes left in the game. Two baskets by Smith made the score 52-51. With 38 seconds left on the clock Summit stole the ball and had a chance to take the lead, but an errant pass was easily intercepted by Mendham and they hung on to win the game.
Wellington Smith led Summit with a double-double (13 points and 13 rebounds). Summit certainly had a bad shooting night as the team's three leading scorers hit on only 9 of their 36 shots (25%). Things did not go well from the foul line either as we sank only 13 of 25 attempts (52%)
Mendham was was led by Leonardelli (17 points) and Thomas (19 points)
