A packed house, that was anticipating a great start to the 2002-2003 season, got a initial shock from Morris Hills. Morris Hill took charge of the game from the start and seemed to be able to block every inside shot that Summit managed to try. By the end of the first quarter Morris Hills held a 17-8 lead and looked like world beaters. Their lead grew to 20-8 on a 3 pointer but then, slowly, Summit began to crawl back into the game. Tony Johnson and Dwayne Reid each got a 3 pointer to drop and Alex Sprinzen added 5 points as the gap was closed to 26-24 at half time. Defensively Wellington Smith helped keep Summit in the game by pulling down 11 rebounds in the half.

Summit began to take charge in the 3rd quarter, led by Sprinzen's 10 points. Summit took its first lead, 29-28, with 6 minutes left in the quarter and never looked back. Summit broke the game open in the final quarter as they out scored Morris Hill 31-13. Johnson had the hot hand as he racked up 12 points in the quarter.

Sprinzen led all scorers with 20 points and Smith had 13 rebounds.
