This was a very big game for both teams. Mt. Olive and Summit entered this game with identical 7-3 conference records. The victor would remain in the hunt for the conference title, while the loser would be out of contention. The 1st quarter had both good and bad news for Summit. The good was that the defense limited Mt. Olive to only a pair of field goals and gained a 14-8 lead. The bad news was that Dwight Reid picked up 2 quick fouls in the first 3 minutes and was forced to sit on the bench for much of the 1st half. Summit was hot at the start of the 2nd quarter and amassed a huge 29-11 lead mid way through the quarter. But Mt. Olive had an 11-2 run to close the gap to 9 points at the half.
Mt. Olive continued to close the gap to 4 points by the end of the 3rd quarter. What had looked like a blowout in the 2nd quarter was now a nail biter. Dwayne Reid started the final quarter with a field goal. Then Alex Sprinzen hit a field goal, a 3-pointer and 2 free throws to make it a 52-42 game. Dwight Reid added 2 more points, but Mt. Olive rallied again to get within 3 points. A Dwight Reid 3-pointer, a FG by Wellington Smith and 2 more FTs by Sprinzen put the game away.
Sprinzen led the Summit scoring with 21. Smith contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Dwayne Reid added 13.
Mt. Olive's Halonski was again their high scorer with 20 points.
