What looked like an easy victory turned into a 4th quarter struggle. Summit carried a 40 -24 lead going into the final quarter. The Summit fans were smiling and thinking blowout. After Summit scored its initial 3 points of the quarter Parsippany ran off 14 unanswered points to close the gap to 5 points (43-38). Parsippany's Brian Urban scored 8 of his 12 points during that stretch. At this point there was a lot of angst among the Summit faithful. Fortunately, Alex Sprinzen and Dwayne Reid scored back-to-back baskets to put the lead back to 9 points. Parsippany was not about to give up and came back with 5 points to make it 47-43. A pair of free throws by Chris Dean gave Summit its final 2 points.
The big rally by Parsippany was aided by both a technical foul and an intentional foul called on Summit. Each resulted in two foul shots by Parsippany and Parsippany's ball out of bounds. The technical foul was Dwight Reid's second of the game and resulted in his ejection. As a result he will be forced to sit out the next 2 games (Mt. Olive and West Essex). He will return to action in the Weequahic game.
Dwayne Reid (13 points), Dwight Reid (11 points) and Sprinzen (10 points) led Summit offense. Wellington Smith led the rebounders with 9. Summit was out scored 12-5 at the foul line.
Dan Moses (13 points) and Brian Urban (12 points) led Parsippany's scoring.
