Roselle had a 5 point lead at the end of the 1st quarter. They added to their lead in the 2nd quarter and ended the half up 39-31. The game turned around in the 3rd quarter as Summit cut the lead to 2 points (52-50). Dwayne Reid caught fire with 10 points and Alex Sprinzen (5 points) and Dwight Reid (4 points) completed the quarter's 19 points that catapulted Summit back in to the game. Sprinzen scored the opening Field Goal of the 4th quarter to knot the score at 52-52. After a free throw and a field goal by Roselle, Dwight Reid did the same for Summit and it was 57-57 with about 4 minutes to go. Roselle scored a field goal and Sprinzen hit Summit's only 3-pointer of the game to give Summit its first lead since early in the 1st quarter. A field goal put Roselle back on top, but Sprinzen made it 62-61 in favor of Summit with about 3 minute remaining. However, five Roselle free throws down the stretch put them ahead to stay. It's futile to dwell on what might have been but Summit uncharacteristically hit only one 3-pointer in about 13 tries. In addition, Summit managed to hit only 7 of their16 free throws. It wouldn't have taken much extra luck to have made this a victory. As it was it was an outstanding team effort that capped a wonderful 19-5 season. Our stats show that Alex Sprinzen and Dwayne Reid shared the season scoring honors with 332 points each. Dwight Reid was close behind with 295 points. As a side note to the season, Alex Sprinzen scored an even 900 points over his Summit career. This surpassed Ryan Carey's previous "Internet Era" high of 897. |
