What a reversal of fortune. In past meetings Weequahic often made a practice of stealing the ball and scoring points off transition. This time Summit applied such defensive pressure that Weequahic repeatedly turned over the ball to a quicker Summit squad. Dwight Reid, coming off a two game suspension, showed how much he was missed by scoring 14 points in the1st quarter and leading Summit to a surprising 27-13 lead. The pressure continued in the 2nd quarter as Alex Sprinzen (8 points) and Dwayne Reid (12 points) helped Summit to a 51-30 halftime lead. Dwayne Reid's final 3 points of the quarter came at the buzzer when his shot from mid field touched nothing but the net. Can anyone remember Summit scoring 51 points in a half against a quality 6-2 team? Wellington Smith deserves significant credit for the success in the half as he blocked many shots, forced others to change their shot, and pulled down 5 of his 7 rebounds. The 3rd quarter was dominated by Dwayne Reid who racked up 15 points. Summit entered the 4th quarter with a commanding 72-45 lead. In the final quarter Weequahic needed to put Summit at the foul line and hope that they missed. They were disappointed when Sprinzen hit 8 for 8 and Dwight Reid went 3 for 3.
Dwayne Reid had seven 3-pointers to break the "Internet Era" single game record of five, previously held jointly by John Brown, Brendan Reilly, Ryan Carey and Dan Dugan. Summit as a team hit 54% of their shots, a significant improvement over the 36% that was the average of the last 4 games.
