The Summit bats seemed impotent for four innings. Four hits, but no runs (6 runners left stranded). Meanwhile Dover loaded the bases in the second with two singles and a base on balls. One run came in on a sacrifice fly. In the top of the 5th inning a walk and two hits scored two more runs for Dover, for a 3-0 lead.

Summit came to life in the bottom of the fifth. A one out triple by Kevin McNeil, a double by Eric Smith, a hit batsman (Jeff Johnson) and singles by Jeff Della Piazza, Brad Dolny and Kyle Dobiszewski resulted in five runs to give Summit a 5-3 lead. However, In the top of the sixth Dover responded. The leadoff hitter scored in an unfortunate way: an error put him on first, he was balked to second, then took third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch. A base on balls, a double and a single resulted in two more runs, giving Dover a 6-5 lead.

Summit batted around in the bottom of the sixth. McNeill led off with a double. Smith attempted to sacrifice but popped up. The ball fell in a no man's land between the pitcher, catcher and third baseman, and Smith was safe on first. Johnson's ground rule double scored one run and put runners on second and third. An error allowed two runs to score. Singles by Darren Apostolic and Dobiszewski drove in another run, giving Summit a 9-6 lead, which held up through Dover's last bat.

Many thanks to Dick Kuehne (scoring) and Dick Diffenderfer (writing up) for covering the game in my absense.
