Summit made the most of their 4 hits to beat Mendham in a well pitched game. The weather was a complete reversal of opening day as it was sunny and in the 60s. Eric Smith got his first start of the season and was able to scatter 7 hits to gain the 4-2 victory. Smith kept the ball in or near the strike zone the entire game and only walked 2 batters while striking out five.

Mendham threatened in the 1st inning when a walk, single and an error loaded the bases with 2 out. Smith got the next batter to hit into a 4-6 fielder's choice to end the inning. Summit picked up a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Kyle Dobiszewski tripled with one out and Darren Apostolic drove him in on a ground ball. Summit took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Kevin McNeil got on via an error and moved to 3rd on Smith's sacrifice bunt. He scored on Jeff Johnson's ground ball to the 1st baseman. Mendham knotted the score at 2-2 with an unearned run in the 4th and another run in the top of the 5th.

Summit responded with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th. Zach Barber started the inning with a single. Then, after one out, McNeil was hit by the pitcher. Back to back singles by Johnson and Della Piazza drove in Barber and McNeil. Mendham's final threat came in the 6th when the lead off batter walked, but was thrown out on a fielder's choice. After a 2nd out, a Mendham single put the tieing runs at 1st and 3rd with 2 out. Smith got the next batter to hit a ground ball to Dobiszewski who made a nice pickup and got the runner at 1st base.

The Millburn Tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday (4/10). Summit will meet New Providence at 11AM.
