Summit failed to win the Krug Tournament for the first time since its inception. It was a superbly pitched game by both pitchers. Kyle Dobiszewski allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks over 7 innings. Unfortunately, Millburn's Goldring gave up only 1 hit and 3 walks. The difference was that 2 of Millburn's 3 hits and both their walks occurred in the same inning, resulting in their 2 runs. In contrast, Summit had two innings with multiple runners on base but in both instances base running errors eliminated the chance for additional runs.

Kevin McNeil began things by getting Summit's only hit when he led off the 1st inning. Eric Smith hit a ground ball to the 3rd baseman which he mishandled. However, McNeil overran 2nd base and was thrown out before he could get back. Smith stole second base before Jeff Johnson was walked. When the MIllburn pitcher threw to 1st to try to pick off Johnson the ball was in the dirt and went to the fence. Smith scampered home with Summit first and only run.

In the 3rd inning Millburn got 2 singles and with 1 out had runners on 1st and 3rd. Dobiszewski was called for a balk and the runner on 3rd was advanced to home. The call seemed to disturb Dobiszewski to the extent that he immediately gave up his only 2 walks on 9 pitches. With the bases now loaded, a sacrifice fly scored what turned out to be the winning run. Summit's only chance for another run came in the 6th inning. After 2 outs McNeil got on base via an error. Smith drew a walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd with Johnson at bat. The count got to 3 and 2, so with 2 out the runners were off and running with the next pitch. Unfortunately, the lead runner jumped the gun and was out in a rundown.

In spite of the loss, Dobiszewski's outstanding pitching in the two Krug Tournament games (12 innings, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 6 hits and 3 walks) bodes well for the rest of the season.
