Summit won its season opener under conditions that were very inhospitable to the game of baseball. The temperature was in the low 40s and the wind was gusting to 30 miles per hour. Jeff Johnson pitched a much better game than the score would indicate as he gave up only 5 hits and 1 earned run.

Johnson got off to a slow start as he hit the first batter and walked the next. An error on the next ground ball allowed 1 unearned run to cross the plate. Summit tied the score in the bottom half of the inning when Eric Smith walked and Johnson singled. Smith scored on Jeff Della Piazza's fielders choice. Summit took a 4-1 lead in the 2nd inning on 4 walks, 1 error, 1 wild pitch and a single by Eric Smith. Summit returned the favor in the 3rd inning by committing 2 key errors that allowed 3 runs to score. Mt. Olive moved ahead 6-4 in the top of the 4th on a walk, 2 Summit errors, and a single. In the Summit 4th Zach Barber started things off with a single and Tim Fields was walked. A passed ball and a wild pitch allowed Barber to score and put Fields into scoring position. Kevin McNeil doubled to drive in Fields. Two more wild pitches brought McNeil home to put Summit ahead 7-6.

Summit added 4 more in the 6th inning. Smith and Johnson singled and Della Piazza got on via an error by the 3rd baseman. Matt Fields was safe at 1st when a 3rd strike got away from the Mt. Olive catcher. A single by Kyle Dobiszewski rounded out the scoring with a single.
