Summit advanced to the finals of the Millburn Tournament with a victory over New Providence. Jeff Johnson was the starting pitcher but turned the pitching duties over to Kyle Dobiszewski after 2 1/3 innings. Even though Johnson hadn't given up any runs he was shifted to center field because of soreness in his shoulder, left over from pitching the Mt. Olive game in 39 degree winds. Dobiszewski went the final 4 2/3 inning, getting credit for the win, giving up only 3 hits and 1 earned run.

Summit scored in the 1st inning after Johnson was safe on an error, stole 2nd and scored on a single by Jeff Della Piazza. New Providence tied the score in the top of the 4th on an unearned run. Summit answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. After 1 out, Zach Barber singled and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by Brad Dolny. Singles by Tim Fields and Kevin McNeil loaded the bases. Eric Smith singled to drive in 1 run, and the bases were still loaded. Johnson drew a walk, scoring Fields. The final run came when McNeil scored on a ground ball by Della Piazza. New Providence managed another run in the 5th when Matt Fields made a diving try at a hard hit shot to left field. When he hit the ground it knocked the wind out of him and he was momentarily unable to get up. The hitter circled the bases before the ball could be retrieved.

Summit will meet Millburn in the finals on Saturday 4/17. The probable time is 2PM.
