In spite of being out hit and getting far fewer runner on base, Summit was in the game until the final inning. A couple of late fielding mistakes and a questionable call put the game out of reach. New Providence started their ace, Wargo, and he proved too much for Summit as he struck out 14 and allowed only 4 hits.

New Providence picked up runs in the 1st and 3rd innings but Summit came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to grab a 3-2 lead. After one out, Alex Fischer drew a walk. Kevin NcNeil stroked a clean single and Eric Smith singled to drive in a run and move McNeil to 3rd. After a 2nd out, Jeff Della Piazza doubled to drive in McNeil and Smith. Summit had a possibility to grow the lead in the 4th. Zach Barber led off by getting on base via an error. However, he was thrown out trying to steal. Darren Apostolic followed with a walk, but was picked off 1st base. So instead of runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs the bases were empty and two outs. The inning ended with a strikeout.

New Providence took the lead in the 5th on a walk, a single and an error. One run was earned and the other unearned. Summit had a good chance to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th. Fischer started the inning with a double to the fence. McNeil moved him to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt. However, the next two Summit batters were both called out on strikes without ever taking the bat off their shoulders.

In the top of the 7th New Providence put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs. The next New Providence batter hit a hard shot down the 3rd baseline. Fischer made a sensational stop but had a bit of trouble before getting a handle on the ball. He raced to 3rd for the force out, that ended the inning. Unfortunately, the umpire (whose vision was blocked by the players) called the runner safe. The next batter cracked a single to right and it was all over.
